Information
Jane Pritchard is a ceramicist living and working in Hereford.
Originally a graphic designer, Jane changed career after taking a part time ceramics course at City Lit, London, culminating in MA Contemporary Craft at UCA Farnham.
Her current work is based on the theme of renewal, both in our natural surroundings and in the built environment - how they connect with each other and referencing human interactions with both.
A handbuilder, she uses porcelain and stoneware slabs to create vessels and wall pieces, utilising unglazed clay with natural oxides and slips which combine organically to create contrast and texture.
There are two main influences on her work: the Palacio de Pena in Sintra, Portugal - a beautiful palace whose infrastructure is under attack from the cloudy humid environment, and the city of Sevilla, particularly the blue and gold tiles of the Casa de Pilatos.
